Konami normally produce excellent football video games and this version is no exception. A number of enhancements have been made and this has enabled Pro Evolution to match and better Fifa’s efforts for the PS2.

One of the great new features of the 2010 version is the very much enhanced realism. It delivers a pace of game which is very much what you would see in the Stadium or watching a match on the TV. The are triangulation of passes and use of off the ball runs, both of which are absolutely key to breaking down the opposition, which forces the player to make use of the strengths of his teammates to create goal scoring opportunities. Completely gone are the examples of soft goals you would have sometimes seen in the previous versions of Pro Evolution, now only working the channels and precision play will suffice.

Another key advancement is in the Player Characteristics. Key skills of many of the players have been attributed named, which allows gamers to incorporate them into their game strategy

There is also Instant Tactical Switching included which means each team has unique settings matching their real-life playing styles. This can include sophisticated play and high numbers in attack, pressing from the midfield area, a strong defensive line and also width right across the pitch. Also for the offense, there are default settings supporting wide attacks and the aim to move in the back of the opponent’s defence line. There is an option for the gamer to summon the bar instantly during a match, to adjust team tactics, to enhance their defence or strengthen their attack.

The Master League has now been updated to include a Champions League mode, which is a fantastic new addition. This can be accessed as a stand alone competition or as part of the master league. The visual effects are even better than ever with great camera views and also the player’s faces have been greatly enhanced so the players look even more lifelike and realistic.

All in all this is a fantastic video game, the best pro evolution game so far, and is a snip at the price.
